IZZE joins in the summer fun at the 30th Annual Mermaid Parade and Ball in Coney Island!

June 25, 2012

A completely original creation of Coney Island USA, the Mermaid Parade is the nation’s largest art parade and one of New York City’s greatest summer events. Founded in 1983 by Coney Island USA, the not-for-profit arts organization that also produces the Coney island Circus Sideshow, the Mermaid Parade pays homage to Coney Island’s forgotten Mardi Gras which lasted from 1903 to 1954, and draws from a host of other sources resulting in a wonderful and wacky event that is unique to Coney Island.

The Mermaid Parade celebrates the sand, the sea, the salt air and the beginning of summer, as well as the history and mythology of Coney Island, Coney Island pride, and artistic self-expression. The Parade is characterized by participants dressed in hand-made costumes as Mermaids, Neptunes, various sea creatures, the occasional wandering lighthouse, Coney Island post card or amusement ride, as well as antique cars, marching bands, drill teams, and the odd yacht pulled on flatbed.

IZZE was thrilled to join both the parade and the Mermaid Ball which was held in the Coney Island Aquarium as they celebrated their 30th year this past Saturday. Revelers came out dressed in amazing sea-themed costumes to join the parade’s King and Queen – Jackie the Jokeman and Anabella Sciorra as hundreds of floats, marching bands and Mermaids and Mermen partied in Coney Island.

The IZZE was flowing on the streets and at the awesome Ball which followed. Crowds enjoyed the music stylings of DJ Soulflower and Eddy Van Raven as well as an amazing performance by NYC’s very own MOBY. We’d like to spend a special shout-out to our friends at Sailor Jerry Rum, who we paired our delicious Ginger IZZE with to make some fantastic cocktails. It was wonderful to see so many of you out there and we really enjoyed talking with so many IZZE lovers at the IZZE tent. We hope to see you all next year for some more fun in the sun!

Earlier this month, IZZE once again partner up with Unique Los Angles for this 4th Annual Spring Show. Over 18K guests joined us over the two days for what turned out to be the best show yet. If you are not familiar, Unique is an amazing show consisting of all things made here in America. Crafts, paintings, jewelry, food items, clothing, etc. Unique has something for everyone. This year it even featured internet sensation CAINE’S ARCADE! As usual, we were on hand to spread the IZZE love and hand out ice cold samples to any guests who were thirsty. Needless to say, it was hot out and there were lots of thirsty shoppers. We had an amazing time and are really looking forward to the next two shows coming up this summer! Unique SF is on the books for 6/31-7/1 at The Concourse and NYC will come soon after that. Check out their website (StateofUnique.com) for all the details. IZZE will definitely be on hand for both those shows. Until then here are some of our favorite pics from the Spring Show.
