Stir, Splatter + Roll is a fun and creative departure from New York’s usual benefit and gala circuit created and hosted by our amazing friends at Publicolor. Alarmed by the ramifications of our nation’s rising high school dropout rate, industrial designer Ruth Lande Shuman founded Publicolor in 1996 when she realized that too many of our schools look and feel like prisons—a condition contributing to our all-too-high dropout rate—Ruth created Publicolor to use the power of color, collaboration, design, and the discipline of commercial painting to engage high-risk students in their education and create a better trained and educated workforce for our future.
The event, which is held at Martin Luther King, Jr. High School, just behind Lincoln Center, transforms the school’s gym and hallways through the vibrant work of the Publicolor staff, students and volunteers. The evening began with colorful IZZE cocktails and collaborative painting, where guests and students joined a spectacular group of Team Leaders, including Michael Kors, Nicole Miller, Christo, Ed Schlossberg Jonathan Marvel + Rob Rogers, Jeffrey Banks, Vicente Wolf, and Gael Towey, Creative Director at Martha Stewart Living Omni-media. Together, each group created an original design on canvas which was then offered at a silent auction at the end of the evening. One hundred percent of money raised supports Publicolor’s scholarship fund. The scholarship fund helps to empower students to reach their full potential in college through a continuum of design-based programs and academic support that help counter the drop-out rate.
IZZE would like to join Publicolor in thanks to the 400+ supporters who joined us at Stir, Splatter and Roll this year. Thanks to your generosity, the event raised $95,000 for the S,S+R scholarship fund and over $700,000 for other relevant Publicolor programs. Be sure to check out their website – www.publicolor.org to find out more about their programs or to make a donation today. Of course you can always follow IZZE on twitter or friend us on facebook to find out about all of the exciting events we have going on in your area.
